🛠 Tools I use & reccommend 🛠
Introduction:
- For now, this will only list digital tools (software), but will eventually be expanded to cover other important things I want to share.
- If you have Questions, Requests or Ideas you want to share, feel free to contact me. (Preferably via Telegram. You'll find other contact info here).
Digital Tools
Operating Systems
Laptop & Desktop
🛈
I currently use a DELL Latitude E5470.For a Laptop it's a little fragile - but as far as the stuff inside's concerned it's great value.
If you aren't familiar with Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and Linux Distributions, I highly reccommend you to take some time to read through the basics:
🛈 About Free Software and Operating Systems
This is a very short crash-course on Operating Systems & Free Software - trying to be as informative as possible while still being small.History: Back in the 's, there were basically two operating systems that came to last: DOS & UNIX
GNU/Linux:
GNU Operating System & Linux Kernel
- Free as in Freedom.
- Actually does what you want - and Only that.
- Rocksolid, proven, industry standard; based on open standards; hackable (you can truly make it yours); sustainable; consistent;
- …and so much more
Arch Linux:
In this Family: Arco Linux, Artix Linux, Manjaro, etc.
- GNU/Linux Distribution focussing on bleeding edge features & technology (which also means the most up-to-date software), performance, simplicity, | do-it-yourself - style
- Rolling Release Update Type: Every System Component gets constantly updated. So there's no Versions as the system you're currently running is always the newest version of itself (as long as you keep it updated).
- Unlike the term »bleeding edge« might suggest, Arch - based Distributions are rocksolid and, in my experience, very well made tools to work with. I started my *nix journey with Ubuntu 16.04 with the Unity 7 Desktop back in 2016 - but are solely working with Arch Linux Distributions since ~ 2020. To me they are just better overall (performance, stablity, resources, scalability & leanness).
Mobile Devices
Android Open Source Project (AOSP):
Quickinfo
Graphene OS: Android (AOSP) fork with focus on Freedom & Security.
User Interfaces
Laptop & Desktop
GNOME Desktop Environment: GNOME initially meant »GNU Network Object Model Environment« but was eventually dropped because GNOME is no longer a GNU Project and the acronym's initial meaning no longer reflected the vision of the GNOME project.[
Intuitive UI & Sensible Defaults
A simple, robust, flexible, scalable & powerful Desktop Environment with efficient resource management and a workflow so natural that you don't need to waste your time thinking about how to do stuff - you just do it. Especially on Laptops with Touchpads the Experience is amazing. And the Keyboard Navigation is quite comparable in features & completeness.
Mobile Devices
Android:
Currently a mix of the following:
- KISS Launcher → Launcher & Homescreen
- Blue Line Console → Assistant
- Pre Android 7 Task Switcher (I didn't found a better one yet - and it has almost all features I want.)
